Flash Fiction: Precious Pearls

Precious Pearls

For nine days and nine nights, we suffered her wrath;

A deluge of her anger sweeps in; filling the river’s belly;

Crest after crest, wave after wave; floods the lands;

swallowing everything and everyone it touches;

When the moon is full, the tide high

Mermen of her court rise with each swell;

To protect our precious pearls, we must hide.

Far from the shore, in the darkness of night;

We pray they do not find.

In the back of the cave, our precious pearls hide.

Their whimpers and cries give us away.

From fins and fishtails, to feet, they find.

Water is there’s to command.

Flushing us from our hidey-hole,

They steal our precious pearls.

To the sea’s depths do they swim,

The to the castles below the sand

Drowning our young.

Never to be seen again.

I love my bed. I love sleeping in my bed. I love sleeping in on the weekend in my bed.  I don’t love when the neighbors let their dogs out at six in the morning to bark their heads off for the next three hours.

Mind Your Boundaries

If I turn around, you’re in my face or I bump into you because you’re to close….

If your close enough you can hear my conversation with a store clerk….

If I feel you breathing down my neck…

If I can see you in my periphery…

Then your invading of my privacy, my personal boundaries. So, back off, keep your distance, respect the boundaries and take a step back.
